Rocky Mountain College Rendezvous 2008

<Updated 21 July 2008>

   Well the deadline for the Poke and Stroke slipped by us as we were busy making some final preparations for RMC 2008.  We have now had our site visit with the Forest Service and in that meeting were Ron Ring, John Kummer, Mary Jo Kummer, and Doug Rightmire from CSMLA.  From the Forest Service were Chris Prew and Dee (his replacement), we met to walk the site with initial set up ideas including were we could have the range.  We believe we have the spot picked out for the range and it should not be too far of a walk as we have a limited spots for a backstop.  The site was dry considering the reports of snow but as of yet there is no fire ban being reported and as of this writing there has been some additional snow in the area above 9000 feet.

   Be sure to check before arriving at Camp to see if there are any Fire Bans in effect. (Web Master)

   We have the same company again winning the bids for the hooters and his fee will be the same so we have saved some budget on that.  We have talked again to the Jefferson Store for ice and supply delivery and have made arrangements for trash dumpster as well.  Water and wood permits have been discussed with the Town of Fairplay and the Forest Service so there should be no surprises there.

   Check out the CSMLA web site www.csmla.org for the latest on the class schedule as we have had more interest this year in classes by both instructors and attendee’s.  We have had many calls from out of the area as well about the event and hope to have some new folks visiting us as well.  As stated before, we will be there regardless of the price of gas as this is our vacation and are looking forward to seeing all our old acquaintances as well as some new friends to be made.

   We have some great activities planned again this year and hope to get more involved in them as we go.  Back again will be the frying pan toss, cooking contest followed by a camp wide pot luck (plan accordingly), more kids activities (with some activities even planned for the older teens as well) and a Tug-O-War will have to see how that turns out as I understand the sides may be something unexpected.  The State Primitive Match, Kids Shoot with two guns for top boy and girl as usual, range hours to be announced.

   Lastly there is the normal request for help with dog soldiers, gate, criers, and overall assistance.  Again we do not want anyone to have to do it all as we do understand that this is your vacation as well.  Give us some time and if we all give a little then it will get covered.  If you know when you can help out give us a call or let us know when you get to camp and we can file out the schedule for the event.  Thanks for all who can help and even if you don’t we understand as schedules can be very fluid at events such as College.  Robert will again be our camp medic and we are looking forward to seeing the Fullers new zip code at college this year with the addition of their new marquee.  I think they are getting as much canvas as us or possibly have surpassed us in that respect.   Thanks again and we are looking forward to seeing all of you at camp this year having a great time and remember the altitude and to drink plenty of water.
